I have a mini cactus and it is super cute.
I made a little stand for it so it wont die like the last one.
The last one lived dangling off of my cell phone.
It is a very harsh environment.
No place for such a cute little cactus to be living.

Making a hat for sculpture class out of paper and glue and frustration.
It's not really supposed to be wearable. It's supposed to be a sculpture.
The wearable function is coincidental. Probably related to it being modeled after a wearable item.

Oh boy I'm so excited:)
Ive been using blingo like forever and never won anything. But I just won a $5 dollar amazon gift certificate when I ran a search for a map of the red line:) Of course it's such a small amount that it means I'll be spending more than just the 5 dollars when I buy something. But I was just on amazon this morning looking at books, so it's all good :) Yays

Bunch of photos

They're scanned a little sloppier than I normally do (I usually edit out dust in photoshop and some of the cropping here is sloppy) but there are a lot of em and I'm lazy so deal with it (only a handful of people comment on my posts now a days anyways. I'm not even sure how many people read this thing anymore)

It is still February. Calendar says June but he is a liar.
All the Calendars got together you see
Had a big meeting
Calendars hold a lot of power over us. Controling our times of action
How well do you really know your Calendar?
You trust it to tell you the date, but when did you last converse with it?
It tells you information, yet you do not reply even with a "Thank you"
The one sided conversations began to tire them. They considered going on strike and leaving us stranded in February forever.
Instead they opted for a subtler, more devious, approach.
They joined forces with the Clocks. The Clocks and Sun are long time buddies, with Clock on their side Sun soon followed. Together they artificially our accelerated time.
People wonder, "wow, midnight already? Why am I not tired? I better get to sleep though."
Six months pass by in two weeks.
"Time has gone by fast" , they say metaphorically, unaware of the literal meaning.
The people still don't give their calendar's the proper attention, treating them as slaves.
Do your part.
Be nice to your Calendar please and help us end this time acceleration.

Gender as defined by liquid soap [23 Mar 2007|10:34am]

Here are three diffrent kinds of liquid soap. Each one has a gender that it is marketed towards. So let's see what ingrediants in these soaps define gender.

The dove soap is gender neutral anyone in my house would use this soap. My dad bought this for my mom and she was annoyed because it was uncented and not girly enough.

The Softsoap is female. It smells really nice. I picked this out in the store for my mom after my dad stupidly bought the Dove soap and her thought it was too rediculious and that there was no way that was what my mom wanted.

Lastly is Axe, the male soap. Despite its' pretty color it is targeting the male type of human by telling them this will attract females to them.

Let's look at the ingediants shall we?

Gender Neutral Soap: Water, Glycine Soja (Soybean) oil or Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) seed oil, Glycerin, Petrolatum, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Lauric Acid, Cocamide MEA, Polybutene, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimoniom Chloride, Isostearic acid, PEG-5 Cocamide, Acrylates/Beheneth-25 Methacrylate Copolymer, PEG-30 Dipolyhydroxystearate, DMDM Hydantoin, Tetrasodium EDTA, Etidronic Acid, Iodopropynyl Butylcarbamate, Fragrance, Titanuim Dioxide (Cl 77891)

Female Soap: Water, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PEG-8, Xanthan Gum, Fragrance, Mineral Oil, Aloe Barbadenesis Flower Extract, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Fruit extract, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) fruit extract, Acacia Senegal gum, gelatin, mica, titanium dioxide, DMDM hydantoin, tetrasodium EDTA, Benzophenone-4, Citric acid, FD&C Red No. 40, EXt. D&C violet no.2

Male Soap Water, Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate, Ammonium Laureth Sulfate, Acrylates Copolymer, Cocamidopropyl bentaine, cocamide MEA, fragrance, propylene glycol, PEG-5 cocamide, glycerin, PEG/PPG- 18/18 Dimethicone, Benzophenone-4, PEG-45M, Guar Hydroxypropyltrimonium Chloride, Etidronic Acid, Tetrasodium EDTA, Saccharomyces/Magnesium Ferment, Saccharomyces/Zinc Ferment, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Green 3 (cl 42053), Yellow 5 (cl 19140)

Now I'll go through and delete from the list any ingrediants that the male and female soaps share. because if they both have it than it can't be something that defines gender, it must be something that is nessessary for making soap. I will also delete any thing that the gender neutral soap has because it is the control group and doesnt have an gender definition.

Commom Ingrediants between male and female soaps:Water, Fragrance, tetrasodium EDTA, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Benzophenone-4

And here you have the definition of male versus female:

Female Soap: Sodium Laureth Sulfate, PEG-8, Xanthan Gum, Mineral Oil, Aloe Barbadenesis Flower Extract, Mangifera Indica (Mango) Fruit extract, Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) fruit extract, Acacia Senegal gum, gelatin, mica , Citric acid, FD&C Red No. 40, EXt. D&C violet no.2

Male Soap propylene glycol, PEG/PPG- 18/18 Dimethicone, PEG-45M, Saccharomyces/Magnesium Ferment, Saccharomyces/Zinc Ferment, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Green 3 (cl 42053), Yellow 5 (cl 19140)

Problems with this: The soaps are all produced by diffrent companies so certain ingrediants might just be something the company uses that others dont use. Also the sample size was way too small. PEG stands for Polyethylene glycol. I decided to keep the diffrent PEG uses unless they were exactally the same.

Un-expected finds: Fragrance was listed in the gender neutral soap as an ingrediant even though it was it was unsented. Gelatin was an ingrediant in the softsoap so it isn't vegan.

Reproduce this with the gendered soaps in your home and post a link to it in the comments.

And the word of the week is Hermit

I should become a hermit
hermits can live in the middle of nowhere so they can live where land is cheap and have a huge house

I could sit in my nice warm comfortable room watch you tube videos and steal music off the internet.

I could build a robot to go to classes for me
And I could do all my work in my room and give it to the robot to turn in and the robot could have a video camera to record classes
All I need is some legos, an antenna for picking up wifi and an camera.

I would eat a lot of take out chinese, indian, japanese and korean food.

It would be nice because robots don't mind going out into the cold
I would also not get skin cancer or sun burnt in the summer

I just attached fusable interfacing with a hair straightening iron to avoid walking across campus to the sewing room.

I would be a very well dressed hermit.
I would take pictures for the internets
I wouldn't grow a beard and forget to brush my teeth

It would be a great trademark gimmick for my fashion career. I could send the little robot out to my runway shows and have it talk for me.

I saw a guy having a seizure today [29 Sep 2006|06:23pm]
I am on a bench waiting for the library to open, reading some feminist magazine.
34th between Park and Lexington
A guy stumbles in front of me about a yard away and crashes onto the ground
He drops his iced tea bottle and it shatters into pieces
He starts shaking really rapidly
At first I thought he was messing around with some friends.
Then blood starts oozing out of his head
And I'm like oh shit
Someone called 911
A crowd forms.
He passes out and stops moving for a bit
then wakes up and tries to walk away and everyone is telling him not to move
he tries to run
but stumbles
his ipod is on the ground covered in blood. I wonder if apple's warranty covers damage from blood.
someone helps him stop running away
his whole right side of his face is bloody
the ambulance is there within 5 minutes. If you're going to have a seizure it seems like in public in new york city is the best place (besides a hospital) to have it
The library opens and I get a libray card
10 minutes later when I leave the library the only trace left that anything had happened was a blood stain on the sidewalk

On the subway ride home some guy sneezed really hard and I jumped and thought he was having a seizure too. But he didnt. He was just sneezing.

And that was my (part of) day

Followup on my bathingsuit post from earlier

I decided on Hollister as my place to go for it.
I went on their website (the design is very difficult to navigate, It took about 10 minutes for me to figure out where the catalogue was. It's one of those sites that's pretty and the person obviously knew how ot make websites but forgot the fact that it actually needs to be able to help people.)

It took me a little bit to figure out where the entrance was because they have a bunch of things that look like doors but are not really doors
First thought was wow the music is really loud
And though was my brain is going to die from exposure to too much pop punk

But I journyed forward

I walked around in circles for awhile asking diffrent people where the guys swim suits were before I finally found them
They had a secret code word for them "board shorts"

I found the one I'd picked out online
It was blue but the internet made it look black but that was fine.
As nmy icon can tell you I'm a big fan of the color blue

Then I picked out a bikini top to go with it

I found the line for the dressing room
it was very long
You've think that an expensive store like that would want to make it easier ot buy their stuff
But it was like it was supposed to be Darwin clothing shopping. Only the strongest and most dedicated could survive the line.
Some failed and were pulled out by angry parents tired of waiting.
but some (me among them) prevailed.

I kept thinking that I was seeing people I reconised from school but then I realized that it was just because everyone was dressed so simlar that it was confusing my brain.
There was one girl though who was dressed amazingly. It was obvious all her clothing was from places like abercombie and this store but she put everything together so well and in interesting ways and her hair looked amazing in this intentionaly messy of center pony tail
So I stared in awe of her awesome fashion sense.

In the dressing room. I was suprised how tiny it was.
But the light was wierd
it was overhead and didnt light the whole teeny tiny dressing room
I felt like I was in an interogation room.

I tried on the clothing
I liked how it looked

So I departed and waited in another long line ot pay (More Darwin clothing shopping)
This one wasn't as long though. I guess many people didnt survive the fitting room line's natural selection so only a few were left for this 2nd line
There was a live tv picture of some beach in california on the wall
It was pretty sketchy
I wouldnt want to be broadcasted to stores across the country if I went to the beach.

Then after paying I left and fled to the apple store
And on the ride home I let my ears recover from overexposure to loud music that sucked.

One of my wierder clothing shopping experiences but at least I accomplished my mission:)

I've become scared to read my email. I might stop checking it for awhile, just fyi [10 Dec 2005|01:45am]
So I won't go on a big rant about how we shouldn't have had school today.
but I'll just leave it at these few sentances
I didn't get home until 6 today because of this mess.
If you're going to dismiss people early don't give them only a 5 minute warning. Yea people in this town are rich but not everyone's parents can afford to buy their kid a car. And as a result doing that is going to leave those people standed without rides. And kicking people out of the school after the dismissal is rediculious.

Anyways
Katie went sledding down the stairs near the sci lecture hall today in a recycling bin. It made my day.

And I got photos!
